Stuyvesant Red Cross

New to the club? Stuyvesant Red Cross is all about volunteering: going out into our community and giving back. We volunteer at various events around the city every weekend. Members may sign up for whichever events they are interested in volunteering at. Members are not required to attend any specific events, but are asked to meet a certain amount of hours within the year in order to receive a certificate at the Awards Ceremony.

Signing up for events

We periodically send out events emails through the Google Group and post them on our Facebook group as well. Each events email contains a list of the upcoming volunteering opportunities. Included are descriptions of each event with the date, time, and location and a link to a signup form. If you are interested in volunteering at an event, you may fill out the corresponding Google Form for the event.

 

Capped vs. Uncapped events

Each event description will indicate whether the event is capped or uncapped. Capped events have a limited amount of volunteer spots available; we choose volunteers on a first come first serve basis, so those who sign up first will be accepted. Uncapped events have no limit on the amount of volunteers, so everyone who signs up will be accepted!

 

Confirmation and rejection emails

A few days prior to each event, we will send out confirmation emails to the volunteers who have been accepted and rejection emails to those who were not. Receiving a confirmation email is the only indicator that you were accepted for an event. Confirmation and rejection emails include important information regarding the event, so please make sure to read them carefully when you receive them.

 

At events

On the day of the event, please arrive to the event location at the time specified in the confirmation email. Once you arrive, you must sign in with the event leader. At the end of the event, you must sign out with the event leader. If you have trouble finding the leader, you can call or text them at the phone number provided in the confirmation email. You must always sign in AND out at each event to receive hours for your service. 

 

We expect every one of our volunteers to be cognizant of their behavior at events. You are a direct reflection of our club and our school, so please act accordingly.

Hours

The Hours Spreadsheet is where the record of your service hours is kept. Within a few days after an event, the leader for the event will update the hours onto the hours spreadsheet. If you notice any discrepancies with your hours, please let us know by emailing us at stuyvesantrc@gmail.com and we will look into it.

 

Cancelling an event

If you cannot attend an event you signed up for, regardless if it is uncapped or capped, please email us at least 48 hours beforehand with the reason why you cannot attend. If you miss an event without emailing us in advance, we will deduct hours. For capped events, we will deduct the amount of hours you would have earned for volunteering. For uncapped events, we will deduct half the amount of hours you would have earned.
