How do I join Stuy Red Cross?
Click the "Join Us!" tab! This page will link you to a Google Form where you can enter your basic information. Once you are finished, congratulations! You are now a member of Stuy Red Cross. You will be automatically added to our Google group and receive any e-mails we send out.
What is the difference between a capped and an uncapped event?
Capped events have limited space for volunteers. Usually, volunteers for capped events are chosen on a first come first serve basis. Uncapped events have no amount restrictions; as many volunteers as possible can sign up for those events!
How do I know if I've been accepted to volunteer at a capped event?
If you were accepted for a capped event, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. If you were not accepted for an event, you will receive a rejection email. If you are unsure about whether you are accepted or rejected for a certain event, you can also always e-mail us to check!
How do I contact the leaders if I have a question?
E-mail us at stuyvesantrc@gmail.com for quick and direct responses. You can also post on the Facebook group, but we strongly emphasize communication via email first.
Where/when are events usually held?
Events are usually on Saturdays and Sundays in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, or Bronx. Events can range from 2-3 hours to 10 hours. We also offer in school events throughout the year. They can occur before school, during lunch periods, free periods, and after school. The 2020-2021 school year will include various virtual events in order to still provide volunteer opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
How do I check my hours? What if I didn't receive hours for an event?
Click the "Hours" tab! It will link you to a spreadsheet arranged by ID number so you can check your hours. If you did not receive hours for an event, please e-mail us at stuyvesantrc@gmail.com and we will fix it for you!
What if I need to cancel an event?
If you need to cancel an event, email us at stuyvesantrc@gmail.com! Please keep in mind that unless there are unforeseen circumstances, you must email us 48 hours before an event. Failure to do so will result in the following: for capped events, we will deduct the amount of hours you would have earned for volunteering and for uncapped events, we will deduct half the amount of hours you would have earned.
How will I receive recognition for this club?
The hours requirement for the 2020-2021 school year is to be determined, but it is typically 40 hours. We hold an Awards Ceremony in June for everyone who completes the hours requirement. In addition, you can make a copy of the certificate to give to your guidance counselor as proof of your community service!
Will I get credit for two different clubs?
If Stuyvesant Red Cross is collaborating with other Stuyvesant organizations/clubs (ARISTA, Key Club, etc,), you will most likely receive credit. However if we are doing a completely different job from the other club(s), it is unlikely that you will receive credit for both. If you are unsure about getting credit, e-mail us for clarification!
